THUNDER TAKE 3rd PLACE AT NATIONALS
After three grueling days of tough competition the Tampa Thunder bring home the third place trophy from the Premiere League National Tournament in Atlanta!!!  AND our VERY OWN DAVID MASTERSON brings home the "GOLDEN GUARD" Trophy for BEST DEFENSIVE PLAY!

TAMPA THUNDER HOSTS THE USPSA SOUTHEASTERN TOURNAMENT APRIL 16-17

Get ready for soccer as you’ve probably never seen it played before! Your Tampa Thunder along with four teams from the leading National Conference of the United States Power Soccer Association will be duking it out for dominance of the South on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, 2011 at the fully accessible All People’s Life Center located at 6105 E. Sligh Ave. Tampa, FL 33617 (813)744-5978. Doors will open at 9:00am on Saturday with games beginning at 9:30am and on Sunday at 9:30am. Admittance is free to the public. Power Wheelchair Soccer is the first competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for power wheelchair users. Athletes' disabilities include quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, and many others. The game is played in a gymnasium on a regulation basketball court. Two teams of four players attack, defend, and spin-kick a 13-inch soccer ball in a skilled and challenging game similar to able-bodied soccer. Come and root your home team to victory.  Why?

BECAUSE IT'S THUNDER-TIME!!!!!

Power Soccer—the fastest game on four wheels!

Any Team....Any Time....ANYWHERE!!!

YOUR Tampa Thunder earned the second place trophy in a tough, hard-fought 6 game tournament with some of the top American and Canadian teams!  Ben, Danny, Ryan, Chris, Andrew, David and Aaron showed them how things are done "Down South".  After winning two of their 3 pool play games, beating two of the Canadian teams and losing to the Atlanta Synergy, the Thunder came back strong on day two, beating a third Canadian team and their old nemesis, the San Jose Steamrollers in playoff competition which put them in the tournament playoff team against, once again, the Atlanta Synergy.  When the game was over and the dust had settled the Tampa Thunder found themselves holding the Second Place title for the Americas Champions Cup tournament!

Team Captain Ben Carpenter was also nominated (based on votes by coaches of each of the teams the Thunder faced) as the Tournament MVP!  He was also selected as one of the members of the "Tournament Team", made up of those players that received more than one vote for "game MVP" by coaches from the opposing teams.

Overall, the trip will go down in the Tampa Thunder recordbook as one of the best they've ever competed in.  The venue was great, the hospitality and accommodations were outstanding, and the Tampa Thunder could not have played better.  Again, many many thanks to all of you who made it possible for our athletes to compete in an international competition.  Your efforts and support were well founded as you can see by the results.  We could NOT have done it without your support.

Keep your eyes on the "Photos" page for shots of the action.

A Special Visitor...

On Sunday, December 26th, the Tampa Thunder received a very special Christmas present.  It felt like Santa was making the rounds when we met our new friend Kevin from Ireland.  Kevin plays power wheelchair soccer for a team there and his mother contacted us weeks ago to say that he saw our website and wanted to know if he could come spend an afternoon with the Thunder while his family was on vacation in the states.  We were flattered, humbled and very, very honored to have such an awesome new friend from across the globe.  Visit our "Photos" link to see more pics from that awesome afternoon.  Thanks and love to Kevin and his family from his extended "Thunder Family" stateside.
